Here is a bigger version of the logo;
You can make out various words in the background. They ought to be latin, but they're not. I think they were from a book, but i don't know which one.
Would be interesting to find out.

Googling for those fragments (I can't be the only one who did that, can I?) turned up a poem called "Crabbit Old Woman" by Phyllis McCormack. (Wikipedia lists several alternative titles, but that's the article's primary title.)
The part in the logotype seems to be the first stanza of the poem:
I've seen some slight variations in punctuation and spelling, but that should be close enough.
It do seem to fit the word fragments.
Hey! great find with the poem. I didn't know this.
I think it might now be possible to remake the logo using text as the underneath layer.
I assume you will remain true to the original logo, and not do a "reboot and change it" thing?
Vector graphics that can be scaled upwards without jaggies?
The above picture was made from a vectorised version of the original.
We took the original scan and vectorised it, then cleaned it up a bit. The idea going forward would be to take the current vector and delete the words from inside,
then add a new layer below with the poem words (in the right font).
Right now, it's the words that did not vectorise quite perfect. So this would fix that!
There would be no plan to make some sort of "remastered" logo that was different to the original.
Great news!
this is a great find!
